About David Oldenburger

David Oldenburger is Head of UX/UI at ABB E-mobility, where he is driving a user-centered transformation of EV charging. Working at the intersection of hardware and digital design, he leads the effort to make public charging more intuitive, accessible, and human. At ABB E-mobility, design is a strategic driver. Together with the design team, David ensures that user experience is embedded at the core of every product decision.

With over a decade of experience spanning payments, electric vehicles, and consumer tech, he has shaped global products at companies like Adyen, Lotus Cars, and Philips Hue. His background in both design and product, along with his early career in lighting design for cultural spaces, gives him a unique perspective on creating meaningful, real-world experiences.

Vision on creative industry

The creative industry is entering one of its most exciting and challenging phases in decades: We’re seeing a convergence of AI, spatial computing, and hyper-personalization that is fundamentally changing how we create and how people experience design.

Our mission is to create charging infrastructure that feels like a natural part of the urban fabric. That means paying attention to form, behavior, lighting, sound, and interaction. With an intent of approaching infrastructure as a human experience, not just a technical one. I believe this mentality could and should apply to any industry where design can make an impact.

Looking ahead, I am convinced the creative industry will be defined by the systems we help shape and the behaviors we enable. It’s not just about designing products, it’s about designing environments that are intuitive, inclusive, and in harmony with the cities and communities they serve.

From Functional to Human: Designing the Future of EV Charging

Electric vehicle chargers are often treated as pure utility. Industrial boxes dropped into our streets with little regard for context, clarity, or user experience. But what if we approached them as civic objects, designed to be both functional and human?

In this keynote, David Oldenburger, Head of UX/UI at ABB E-mobility, shares how a deep focus on experience design transformed ABB E-mobility’s chargers from utilitarian hardware into award-winning, user-friendly infrastructure solutions. Blending physical product design with a large-format digital interface inspired by transport signage, David will reveal how thoughtful interaction, typography, iconography, and motion can elevate even the most technical products.

Join us for an inside look at how ABB is reshaping the EV charging experience and setting a new design standard for the infrastructure of tomorrow.
