About Mei Zhang
Hi there, I’m Mei, currently working at Booking.com. I bring 10+ years of experience in shaping product strategy and leading user experiences.
A key strength of mine is driving impact in ambiguous and complex environments. The philosophy I believe in is simple: the right solution always starts with the right approach — something I’d like to share more in my talk. I’m also an active mentor, dedicated to fostering growth in the next generation of designers.
What is your vision on our UX industry?
The UX industry is going through a profound transformation. We’re standing at the middle of the Gen AI era. We can already see tools that automate the production side, like UI and standard interaction flows.
This liberates designers to channel their energy toward creativity in the early stages of the design process: deepening user empathy, uncovering unmet needs, and ideation. As Steve Jobs said, our job is to discover what users need before they even realize it.
Long story short, designers are moving towards a more critical and strategic phase of product development. While efficiency is certainly improving, our challenge is no longer how fast we build, but what we choose to build.
