Christian Kuhn
Researcher / Designer / Trainer / Speaker
Christian Kuhn has more than 20 years of international UX experience. He leads the UX Center of Competence at Optimizer.pt in Porto, Portugal, with client work in pharma, healthcare, fintech and logistics. He contributes to Harvard University DCE, NRI Japan (Nomura Research Institute), Nielsen Norman Group and Singularity University, and teaches Behavior Design and Human-Centered AI Experiences (HAX) at NN/g, TheStarter.io and hax.academy.

Who is Christian Kuhn?
Christian curated the 6 HAX Principles (Human-AI Experience) from leading industry guidelines and authored "Don't Make Me Prompt", a practical guide to AI products people can use without typing prompts. He was part of the team that won the UX Design Awards 2022 in the Product category for an order management system for home dialysis. He is a jury member of the UX Nordic Award 2026. His talk "Don't Make Me Prompt" scored 5.0 out of 5 at webinale 2026, against a conference average of 4.34.
This season he speaks and runs workshops at webinale in Munich, code.talks in Hamburg and prompt:UX in Berlin, and teaches a live online course on designing human-centered AI products.
What is your vision on our creative industry?
Features are cheap now. Trust is not. AI can produce a first draft, an image or a working prototype in minutes. So the value of our work shifts. Less of it is about making screens. More of it is about deciding what should exist, for whom, and whether people can trust it. That is good news for everyone who understands people.
What worries me is how many AI products ask people to work. They open with an empty text box and expect you to find the right words. That puts all the effort on the user. Typing is also slow. On a phone, people type about 36 words per minute.
The innovations that excite me remove that effort. GitHub Copilot suggests code right where developers already type. In a controlled study, developers with Copilot finished a task 55.8% faster (Peng et al., 2023). Google's Circle to Search lets you circle something on your screen instead of describing it. AI glasses like Ray-Ban Meta let you look at something and ask about it. And AI agents like ChatGPT agent now browse websites and complete tasks for people. Our products must work for humans and for their agents.
My vision for our industry is simple. We stop designing chat windows and start designing how AI behaves. The best AI feature is the one you use without writing a single prompt.
What are you bringing to UX Rotterdam?
Don't make me prompt! A 2-hour hands-on workshop on prompt-free AI design.
Part 1, Why prompting is a weak interaction (20 min). I start with a video from 1978 that shows the "office of the future", where every task runs through a command line. Then I show how many AI products bring us back to that point, and many prompt-free AI features that already work in real products.
Part 2, Play (30 min). Everyone opens 13 interactive pattern simulations on their phone. A counter tracks every word they did not have to type. Each table picks a favourite pattern, and we compare the table scores.
Part 3, Redesign (45 min). Each table picks a prompt-dependent product, like Gemini, Word Copilot or Gmail's "Help me write". They sketch a Before and After: what users type today, and how they could get the same result without a prompt.
Part 4, Show and tell (25 min). Each table presents its redesign in one minute. I link each idea to one of the 6 HAX Principles. Everyone leaves with a take-home Audit Builder to check their own product with their team.
This is a 2-hour version of my workshop for Future Product Days in Copenhagen. The extra time goes into the redesign and the show and tell.
