Who is Eva Hörner?
Eva Hörner is Global UX Director at Arcadis, where she leads product design across a global portfolio of complex enterprise products for the natural and built environment. Her work centers on bringing design efforts together across teams, technology stacks, sectors and geographies, creating greater coherence, quality and shared direction at scale.
With a background spanning agencies, startups, B2C and enterprise software, she brings a broad perspective on how design operates in different environments and what it takes to make good design repeatable across an organisation.
What is your vision on our creative industry?
I think AI is doing something more interesting than simply making designers faster: it is expanding the boundary of what designers can contribute, particularly for those curious enough to move beyond the traditional limits of the role.
Producing an interface has never been at the center of what we do. The harder questions have always been: What should we build, why and for whom? Is this a problem worth solving? And is what we are creating actually good?
The skills needed to answer those questions: curiosity, imagination, judgement, understanding human behaviour and being able to derive meaning from conversations with people, are difficult to automate. So I don’t see AI as something that reduces the role of the designer. It is changing our playing field and expands the territory in which we operate.
What are you bringing to UX Rotterdam?
For UX Rotterdam I want to explore how the role of design is changing as the boundaries between thinking, making and implementation are shifting. I’ll draw on what I’m seeing in some of our most progressive product teams, where designers are already working differently. Moving more fluidly between discovery, design, prototyping and implementation, and using new tools to extend where and how they contribute. The talk will look at which skills and behaviours are becoming more valuable, what remains distinctly human about design, and how designers can start adapting now rather than waiting for the role to be redefined around them.
