Kamiela Vallenduuk
Senior UX & Service Designer, Stedin
I’m a Senior UX & Service Designer at Stedin, one of the Dutch energy distribution system operators. Our challenge is to expand and improve grid capacity as quickly as possible. I help define the journeys, projects, and digital systems that support this work.

Who is Kamiela Vallenduuk?
I’ve had the opportunity to work across a variety of companies, industries, and contexts. I enjoy bringing insights from one domain into another, always with UX at the center. The principles behind building effective, well-functioning systems can be applied to almost any field.
Curiosity is what drives me. There are countless interesting domains to explore, and digital services give me a way to understand and shape them. My work has ranged from designing payment structures for a banking app to helping AI interpret customer support questions at Uber and simplifying the complex challenge of strengthening the energy grid.
Although these topics are very different, they share a common thread: designing systems that help organizations improve the speed and quality of their work. That is what motivates me as a designer.
I’m currently part of Stedin, one of the Dutch energy distribution system operators. Our challenge is to expand and improve grid capacity as quickly as possible. I help define the journeys, projects, and digital systems that support this work. This means identifying which systems people need, how those systems should work, and how they can help us improve the grid every day.
What is your vision on our creative industry?
My honest view of the industry is that our daily work is changing significantly, while some fundamental aspects remain the same. We will continue to work with people, manage stakeholders, and bring together insights from different customers and employees.AI can support us in gathering, analyzing, and translating those insights, but support is the key word. It does not replace the human side of our work. Understanding people, navigating different perspectives, and building alignment will remain essential parts of the job.
At the same time, AI will make it easier, faster, and more effective to design systems and processes and create visual representations of complex ideas. This gives us more time and better tools to connect people, define the right problem, and agree on the direction a solution should take.
What are you bringing to UX Rotterdam?
Turning the conference’s human focus toward designers themselves.
Our workshop turns the conference’s human focus toward designers themselves. Reflection is a strength of our profession: we question, evaluate, and continuously improve. But that habit can also keep our attention on what isn’t good enough yet, rather than what we already do well.
We want to help participants explore their strengths and how to lean into them more deliberately in their work and teams. The format is still evolving, but the intention is clear: not to stop improving, but to build from strengths as well as address gaps.
