Who is Yorick Dekker?
I’m a Senior UX/UI Designer at Stedin, working on digital products and services that help make the energy transition a little easier to navigate. My work ranges from customer-facing platforms to design systems that help make complex challenges around grid capacity and congestion understandable.
Besides that, I’m a Design Thinking advocate and facilitator at Stedin. My mission is to bring more of a Design Thinking mindset into our organisation and use it to tackle big challenges like the energy transition or grid congestion.
What is your vision on our creative industry?
With the increasing quality of AI, we as designers can focus on more than just Figma. We can quickly produce high-quality prototypes and designs with the push of a button.
But that doesn’t mean everyone can suddenly be a designer. We still need to do the right research and give AI the right context before we can fire off 10 agents to create prototypes based on a real problem and actual user needs.
I think we’re at a very interesting point in our field. Designers have a choice to shift more towards research and understanding the problem, or towards fine-tuning, front-end design and crafting the experience.
AI can make an experience good, but we still need people to make it unique.
What are you bringing to UX Rotterdam?
Turning the conference’s human focus toward designers themselves.
Our workshop turns the conference’s human focus toward designers themselves. Reflection is a strength of our profession: we question, evaluate, and continuously improve. But that habit can also keep our attention on what isn’t good enough yet, rather than what we already do well.
We want to help participants explore their strengths and how to lean into them more deliberately in their work and teams. The format is still evolving, but the intention is clear: not to stop improving, but to build from strengths as well as address gaps.
