Who is Ben Sauer?
With a career spanning product design, artificial intelligence, conversational interfaces and strategic communication, Ben has worked with organisations including BBC, Amazon, Google and NASA.
During his time at Clearleft, he contributed to award-winning digital experiences, including an Apple App of the Year. He later explored the emerging world of conversational AI, developing frameworks for designing interactions between humans and intelligent systems. His work has influenced teams at some of the world's leading technology organisations.
As a product leader in healthcare, Ben also helped shape AI-powered products with significant commercial impact, combining technological innovation with a deep understanding of human behaviour.
He is the author of Death by Screens, a practical guide to communicating design ideas through powerful storytelling. Today, Ben works internationally as a speaker, trainer and coach, helping designers and product leaders communicate with clarity, build influence and turn great ideas into meaningful outcomes.
What is your vision on our creative industry?
Ben believes the creative industry is entering a period of profound transformation, where artificial intelligence is changing not only how products are designed, but also how ideas are developed, communicated and brought to life.
As AI makes it easier to generate content, interfaces and solutions, the ability to create clarity, exercise judgment and communicate meaningful ideas becomes increasingly valuable.
For Ben, the future of design is not simply about producing more, faster. It's about helping people understand complex problems, challenging assumptions and bringing others together around a shared vision.
He sees storytelling as one of the most important skills for the next generation of creative professionals. Great design work alone is not enough if the people making decisions cannot understand its value.
His perspective encourages designers to move beyond presenting screens and features, and instead become more confident communicators, strategic thinkers and influential voices within their organisations.
What are you bringing to UX Rotterdam?
At UX Rotterdam 2027, Ben will explore one of the most overlooked skills in design: the ability to communicate ideas in ways that people actually understand, remember and act upon.
Drawing on his experience in design leadership, communication coaching and his book Death by Screens, he will challenge designers to rethink how they present their work and influence important decisions.
Why do great ideas sometimes fail to gain support? Why do presentations filled with research, data and beautiful interfaces often struggle to persuade stakeholders? And how can designers use storytelling to make their recommendations more compelling?
Ben will explore how clarity, narrative and strategic communication can help designers bridge the gap between creating excellent work and achieving meaningful impact.
Expect practical insights into framing complex problems, building persuasive narratives and communicating with greater confidence.
In a world increasingly shaped by AI, his perspective is particularly relevant: while technology can help us create more possibilities, it still takes human understanding to turn those possibilities into shared direction and meaningful change.
