Who is Niomi Consten?

Hi, I'm Niomi, an AI product designer at Microsoft, based in Amsterdam. With a background in digital creative agencies leading UX strategy and design for global brands, I now partner with enterprise clients to design AI-powered tools and workflows that solve complex business problems. Since the first wave of generative AI tools arrived, I've been exploring what this shift means, not just for how we design, but for what we design.

What is your vision on our creative industry?

I think we're at a particular moment, a bit like when the iPhone first came to market. Suddenly everything had to be designed for mobile, and there was an enormous amount of work for designers to do. I think we're about to go through the same thing again.

What excites me is how much is still open. We've spent years fine-tuning web and app experiences, with a deep set of best practices to draw from. Now we're in new territory, and those best practices haven't been solidified yet, so we get to shape them. It's not only changing how we work, but what we make. The next generation of digital experiences still have to be defined, and we as designers get to be the ones shaping them.

What are you bringing to UX Rotterdam?

Over the last few years I've been designing AI products, and what I've found is that the change goes deeper than a new set of components or interaction patterns. It's a move from deterministic to probabilistic.

We used to design journeys, interfaces, and error states. With AI, you move into model instructions, guardrails, tool definitions, and data. The deliverables, the collaboration, and the mental model you need as a designer all change with it.

The rules are still being written. This talk is about why so many of our UX methods stop working once AI is involved, what takes their place, and how designers can lead that transition as more of the product logic moves from interfaces into models.
